Clare Bailey MLA concerned over appointment of anti-choice MP

Monday January 8 2018

Green Party MLA Clare Bailey has expressed concern over the appointment of anti-choice MP Maria Caulfield as Conservative vice chair for women.

“Ms Caulfield’s  extreme views on abortion again skew the political debate as it is  a small  but vocal minority of people who believe abortion is wrong in all circumstances to the point that they would physically stop a women from accessing abortion if she felt it was the best decision for her and her family, and fewer who would put women in prison for accessing reproductive healthcare,” she said.

“To be pro-choice is to believe that, although you may never choose abortion for yourself, women who find themselves in crisis pregnancy situations should be the people to make that decision which should be facilitated at home for free and without fear of prosecution.”
