Brexit paper a public relations exercise lacking in substance

Wednesday 16 August 2017

The Brexit position paper released today is, “a public relations exercise which lacks any meaningful substance”, according to the Green Party in Northern Ireland.

Deputy leader Clare Bailey MLA said:

“The position paper offers little for border communities, businesses and people who need to plan and prepare for life in the event of Brexit.

“The government has set out an aspiration for a “seamless” border, but without any detail on how this objective will be met, the position paper is nothing more than a public relations exercise.

“Burning questions remain unanswered and – just as there was no clear vision for what the United Kingdom would look like post-Brexit at the time of the referendum – we are still left with more questions than answers.

The South Belfast MLA concluded:

“Today strengthens the Green Party’s demand that a referendum on the terms of any final Brexit deal is essential.”
