APG on Housing: We are facing into a homelessness crisis

Thursday 06 December 2018

Joint Statement from the All Party Group on Housing

We are facing into a homelessness crisis across Northern Ireland.

The All Party Group on Housing met with the Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) earlier this week (Tuesday 04 December).

The information the NIHE provided to the All Party Group is stark and of particular concern as winter sets in.

In total, 18,000 people presented as homeless across Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, temporary accommodation for homeless people is running at full capacity.

We are facing into a homelessness crisis in the knowledge that many people could be forced to sleep on our streets.

The All Party Group on Housing is demanding that the Housing Executive resist any pressure to cut support services for people who are homeless.

All Party Group on Housing signatories:

Steven Agnew MLA
Nichola Mallon MLA
Mervyn Storey MLA
Robbie Butler MLA
Carál Ní Chuilín MLA
